Facilities

Visitors often comment that the grounds of our 162-acre campus are a beautiful, pleasant environment for a quality educational experience. Although the present facilities on campus are modern and spacious, we still retain one building from our past. Speer Chapel, restored from the World War II Army hospital era, has received a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation.

The Paul E. Glaske Center for Engineering, Science and Technology is a 53,000-square-foot facility with state-of-the-art labs and classrooms for the engineering and science programs. The engineering and science laboratories in the Glaske Center serve the wide variety of subjects taught in engineering, engineering technology, design technology, biology, chemistry and physics. The labs house equipment for experimental learning and design experiences. Other features of the Glaske Center include a display area for students’ designs, an auditorium for presentations, ample classroom space, faculty offices and a conference room. Adjacent engineering laboratory buildings house welding labs and a design and machine tool lab.

Longview Hall is home to the School of Business as well as the computer science and mathematics departments. It also offers computer labs open to all students and houses the headquarters for LETU’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies. The adjacent Heath Hardwick Hall houses faculty offices, classrooms with cutting-edge technology, a large central lecture hall and a student lounge area for the areas of biblical studies, English, history and political science.

The Education Building houses the teacher education and psychology departments. With an emphasis on technology, students have access to a Macintosh lab, multimedia production room, curriculum library, videoconferencing classroom and a laboratory classroom to allow for both observation and interaction with children.

The university’s Margaret Estes Library gives students access to unlimited information through titles housed on site, as well as through the interlibrary loan system. E-books are available, with access to more through the online database netLibrary.

The Solheim Recreation and Activity Center accommodates kinesiology, intercollegiate athletics, intramurals and recreational activities. In addition to modern classrooms, the 75,000-square-foot facility contains a swimming pool, racquetball courts, weight rooms, aerobics/martial arts room, two gymnasia, a walking/running track and lounge areas. A kinesiology lab houses equipment to assess physiological changes during physical activity.

The Corner Café is located in the southeast corner of campus, seats 600 and features multi-level seating, two conference rooms for small group lunch meetings, colorful interior décor, outdoor dining and flexible space to allow students to use the facility as a gathering place during hours when food service is not in operation. Bon Appétit, one of the premier restaurant-quality food service providers to private colleges across the nation, is the university’s food service provider.

The university’s numerous on-campus living options for men, women and married students will soon increase. Plans call for a three-phase residential housing complex to accommodate 600 to 675 students to meet demands based on enrollment growth. Construction began in Spring 2010 on the first phase, a 200-bed residence hall scheduled for completion in time for Fall 2011 occupancy.

The S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center is the premier performance center for the city of Longview, Texas, and surrounding communities. Designed by professionals in architecture and theater design, the center features 1,400 seats on the ground level and another 600 seats in two opera-style balconies. With world-class acoustics and staging, the center also functions as LeTourneau University's chapel, providing LETU students with a place to gather together three times per week to hear incredible Christian speakers and music groups.

The R.G. LeTourneau Memorial and Student Center houses administrative offices, the R.G. LeTourneau museum and a multimedia theater. On the first floor, the campus bookstore offers textbooks and other items that students need for class, as well as LETU gear. The recreation area includes recently renovated facilities for playing ping-pong, pool and just hanging out. Sandwiches, soft drinks, ice cream and other food items are available in The Hive, while Common Grounds sells espresso drinks, hot chocolate and pastries.

The Longview campus also extends to the East Texas Regional Airport, where the Paul and Betty Abbott Aviation Center houses LeTourneau University’s School of Aeronautical Science. This newly-renovated 55,500-square-foot building complex features a large student lounge and open seating areas, 3,350-square-foot flight training area, classrooms and purpose-built labs, as well as administrative, admissions and conference suites. Labs are equipped with the latest computer-based flight training devices (simulators), aircraft mock-ups, special test equipment and high-tech computer-based training equipment. There is also a 10,000-square-foot hangar where LETU flight students operate the university's fleet of airplanes.

The East Texas Regional Airport is well equipped with five instrument approaches and a 10,000-foot runway that regularly handles traffic from the major airlines and the U.S. military. Because of our proximity to Dallas, LeTourneau students have the opportunity to fly in and out of one of the busiest airports in the world.
