Degrees in Chemistry and Physics
|
The open B.S. degree would allow students to work in the chemical industry directly after graduation or would allow them to enter graduate or professional school. The open degree also allows students to take a spectrum of chemistry classes from biochemistry to quantum chemistry. For those interested in a career in environmental chemistry or biochemistry or if you plan to go to medical or dental school, the B.S. with a biological concentration is the way to go. Our chemistry students have been very successful in being admitted to and completing medical school programs. For those with an interest in chemistry and physics, or chemical physics as it once was called, we offer the B.S. with a physical concentration. This major emphasizes the modern physics, quantum mechanics, optics, and computational methods that physical chemistry uses to delve into the forces and motions of atoms and molecules. It would prepare students for direct employment into the chemical industry or for graduate school in chemistry. For those interested in engineering and physics, our new engineering-physics major may be just the thing. Be sure to ask your admissions representative about the new engineering-physics degree from the department of Chemistry and Physics. Science teachers are in great demand. LeTourneau offers two courses of study for those interested in teaching science. The physical science offering is heavily weighted in physics and physical chemistry while the science offering in education is much more general. Links to course offerings in each degree are listed to the left of this page. If you have any questions about these courses or the majors listed above, any of our faculty would be happy to talk to you. Send them an e-mail or give them a phone call. |
